St Mochta's Confirmation Programme

altReceiving the sacrament of Confirmation.

This year St Mochta’s Parish is delighted to welcome children to the programme for preparation to receive the sacrament of Confirmation.  Our Confirmation celebrations will take place in March 2020. Full details will be announced shortly.

Confirmation marks a time when young people are moving on from childhood to the teenage years. Confirmation offers young people an opportunity to think about the serious choices that are facing them – choices about faith and choices about values. In the coming months, they will be learning a great deal about the meaning of Confirmation – about God who loves them for who they are, and who wants to strengthen them for the challenge of living good and joyful lives.

Partnership

Our Christian faith offers a powerful support to young people as they experience the challenges of modern life. They need every encouragement to hold on to and cherish their faith. This year we are planning a programme that is a three-fold partnership involving home, school and parish.

The home is the most important element of this partnership as parents are the first and best teachers of their children. The school and parish will support and celebrate what is being taught and lived in the home.

This time offers a wonderful opportunity for those families who may have lapsed in the practice of their faith to rekindle it once more. Through this preparation, you are encouraged to grasp this moment of grace with both hands for yourself, your child and family.

Due to measures introduced by healthcare authorities limiting attendance at public indoor gatherings to 100 people,
mass in St Mochta's church is suspended until further notice.

Pope Francis invites you to pray with the whole world

 

altAs inspiration for our prayer during these challenging times, Pope Francis has made an appeal for special prayers by the Church around the world today.  He is asking that Catholics all over the world, either individually or in community, to recite the Lord’s Prayer at 12.00 noon on Wednesday next, 25th March.

If you would like to join in community, Fr Binoy, Mountview Church,  will have the celebration at 12 noon today on webcam (https://mountviewblakestownparish.ie/web-cam/) to consecrate Ireland and her people to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for protection from the Corona Virus.

In addition, the Pope invites Catholics of the entire world to unite themselves spiritually with him in a Prayer Service from Saint Peter’s Square on Friday next, 27 March, at 18.00.  The prayer will conclude with Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament imparted “Urbi et Orbi”.  To all who unite themselves spiritually with the Holy Father a Plenary Indulgence will be granted.

Gathering a History of 130 Years

Bell Tower St Mochta's ChurchOn the 1st June 1890, the first sod was turned to mark the beginning of the construction of St. Mochta’s Parish Church. In 1890 our parish population was small and intimate when everyone knew everyone. In 2020 we have 6,000 homes and ongoing building that creates a very large parish population.

To mark the Church’s 130 years, we would like to gather and produce a A History of St Mochta’s Church. If you have any stories, photographs or memorabilia that could contribute to build a picture of the faith lives and community of St Mochta’s Church, we would love to hear from you, especially going back to the early years. There is a rich history in 130 years which could bring us many stories of the people who lived, celebrated, supported and worked for the wellbeing of this church and its community.
