Arranging a Baptism
As Parents, it is your faith that carries your child to the baptismal font. This is why the Church insists that children will only be baptised where there is a well founded hope that they will be brought up in the Catholic faith.
It is the Parents who take the baptismal promises for their child. It is a promise made before God and the gathered Church. For this reason, baptism can only be celebrated if parents, are committed to and practising their faith on a regular basis.
Parents who are not practicing their faith on a regular basis at present and who present their child for baptism may be asked to wait for a period of time to renew the practice of their own faith. This time offers them an opportunity to reflect on the commitment you are about to make before God on behalf of your child.
Baptismal preparation begins with a welcoming ceremony at 11am Mass on the 1st Sunday of each month. You will be asked before the gathered community what name they have chosen for their child and, secondly, what do they ask of God’s Church for their child.
Baptisms are usually celebrated on the 2nd Saturday of the month at 4pm.
Parents will complete a preparation course in the weeks leading up to the baptism ceremony. During this they will go through the ceremony and explain the commitment they are undertaking at baptism on behalf of their child and the promise they make before God. To enquire about baptism please see Deacon Tim or Ciara at 11am Mass on any Sunday.
