Guidelines for the Day of Baptism
The following are a list of items that are essential on the day of Baptism:
Godparents:
The role of Godparents is to support the parents in bringing up your child in the Catholic Faith. For this reason, Godparents must be practicing Catholics who have been confirmed.
Baptismal Shawl:
The Baptismal Shawl is required at the celebration. It symbolises our new life in Christ and being embraced by God’s Love.
Baptismal Candle:
The Baptismal Candle is lit from the Paschal candle, which is a sign for the Risen Christ. The Baptismal candle is a symbol of the living presence of Christ in your child. This light is entrusted to you to be kept burning brightly so that your child will always walk in the ways of the Risen Christ.
Baptismal Certificate:
You need to request a Baptismal certificate after your child’s Baptism, to do so, please email pastoralcare@stmochtasparish with all details of the Baptism. Certs are €6 and can be paid for on our donate page or by cash in the pastoral office.
