Church Notification & Requirements
Essential
PRE-MARRIAGE PAPERS (PRE NUPTIAL ENQUIRY PAPERS): These are prepared by the Parish Priest in the parish that you live in at present. You should contact him not later than four months before the date of your Wedding. Please ensure that the completed papers arrive at this office at least one month before the date of your Wedding – to avoid last minute panic.
Your priest will require:-
1) Baptismal Certificate of recent date – (cannot be more than 6 months old on the day of your wedding) obtained from the church of your Baptism. The best time for this is usually after the 10am weekday mass, or by post enclosing a SAE and appropriate fee – at least €5.
2) Confirmation Certificate if this is not noted on your Baptismal certificate.
Available from the Church of your Confirmation.
3) Proof of Freedom Form from any place of residence of over six months duration or ask your parents or siblings to get the Letter of Freedom (in your wedding pack) to get this form signed and stamped by their own Parish Priest.
4) Copy of your Pre-Marriage Course certificate
PRIEST: Couples who are not parishioners of St. Mochta’s must provide their own priest for the ceremony. The name and address of the priest must be supplied on the Confirmation Form. It is the responsibility of the couple to ensure that the person they wish to Solemnise their marriage is on the Register of Solemnisers. The register is available for inspection at the Registrar’s Office on the “getting married” part of www.groireland.ie. If your Solemniser (priest) lives outside the state, please ask him to contact his Bishop.
Please pay particular attention to the enclosed NOTIFICATION TO THE REGISTRAR OF INTENTION TO MARRY. The marriage cannot proceed without this completed notification. This must be attended to in person at least six months before the date of your Wedding. If you are living outside the Republic of Ireland, please contact them and make arrangements as soon as possible. Please check out “getting married” part of www.groireland.ie or more information. Also, please see the information attached.
MARRIAGE REGISTRATION FORM (MRF): The marriage cannot proceed without this form. Section 6 has to be completed in the Church ON the day of the wedding by the Priest, Groom, Bride, Best Man and Chief Bridesmaid. This form (MRF) will be given to you on the day of your interview with the Registrar.

USEFUL INFORMATION
Brides and Bridegrooms be on time
Every couple having their wedding at St Mochta’s Church are allocated two hours for their celebration and it is important to keep within the time allocation.
Music: The choice of music for your Wedding Mass should be Liturgical and agreed with your celebrant beforehand.
Flower arrangements: Our church is small by city standards but the space is usually adequate. The seats and kneelers may not be moved for any reason. Floral Arches should not be used – there is no space for them and they obstruct the view of the congregation. Pots and other out-door arrangements must be removed after the wedding.
Confetti or Petals must NOT be used inside or outside the Church.
Practice: Please contact the sacristan, Bernie Lanigan least four weeks before your wedding date. Email: sacristan@stmochtasparish.ie to arrange your practice. The practice usually takes place at 6pm, Monday to Friday. There are no wedding practices during Holy week or the week before and after Christmas.
Photography: Your photographer will be expected to be professional and show the respect and reverence, which is appropriate to the Sacredness of the occasion and place. Arc lamps for video recordings are not permitted.
Offering: It is customary to make an offering to the Priest on the day of your Wedding, as well as an honorarium to the Sacristan. The booking fee does not cover these.
Wedding Carpet: Our specially commissioned wedding runner (100% pure new wool) is available for hire. Please contact the Secretary or the Sacristan. The hire charge is €100. Click here to view the Carpet runner.
